Can I use Partition Magic 8 to set up a 'Windows XP only' partition: so that Windows has it's own partition, and Programs have their own partition? On my PC Windows and Programs are currently on the same partition. Can PM8 do this or must I reformat and set these partitions through fdisk?
    Thanks,
    522.

I have Partition Magic 8: I'm just wondering what the steps are (if it's possible) to put Windows on it's own partition and then move my 'program files' to a seperate partion. I know that it's do-able when setting up Windows -but I already have Windows and a ton of proggies installed to one drive/partition.
    Thanks for the reply,

thanks for the replies, I appreciate it.
So, if it's possible how do I do it -does PM8 help tell me how? -again the OS and lots of Programs are already installed -I want to create a partition JUST for windows; the a partition JUST for programs. -My problem is that all is already installed.
As an aside: I love that PM8 has allowed me to change my second drive's drive letter AND remaps the drive for me -that's sooo useful.
    Thanks again,
    -522.

In the "Help" section, look up "Divide". It looks like it is for FAT and FAT32 type partitions only, but it may be what you are looking for. If the option in the "Partition Menu" is "greyed out" you can't use it.

Keep in mind, that they do not recommend moving the "Progam Files" Directory. This can cause havoc with your programs, as the registry setting for locations do not change, nor do your shortcuts (i.e. Click on Program A in start menu and it can't find it because the .exe file is now on "D" drive instead of "C"). Also, many programs require files to be located in the "C" drive "Program Files" directory to function correctly.

In the long run, it may be almost as much work as fdisc and format.

    Thanks once again,
-with the caveat about Program files I figure that it might be better to do this with fdisc or immediately after a format. I love that 'fresh format feeling' as much as the next cat -but it can be a bit of a time consumer.
I appreciate all of the help,
    522.
