Using regular software on touch screen devices

Okay, forgive me if I sound dumb, but here is my question. Can you use regular software on touch screen computers running Windows 8 (I don't have one yet)? For instance, I would want to use maintenance tools such as Auslogics Disk Defrag. I checked on their website and it doesn't look like they have a special version for touch screens. I think it would be pretty cool if there was one, but can the regular version be used?

 

I have a IIyama 24in touch screen monitor, all programs work fine for me, just download the driver and away you go, I don't think you have to have special programs for touch screen, to be honest I still use a mouse.

Thanks for your reply! I would probably use a mouse myself, but I'm planning to get a touch-screen (laptop) computer for my son, who refuses to use anything without a touch screen. rolleyes
I would want him to use maintenance software on that computer, so it wouldn't be just my responsibility. Software that's meant for touch screen computers (especially if it has that 'metro' look) would probably be more likely to be used by my son than anything that looks 'different' and requires a mouse.

 

Touch screens just use you finger as a mouse, there is no magic. Touchscreen long predate the 'metro' interface & Windows 8. I have used tablet PCs since XP. Granted they are easier with a stylus because the [X] to close a window is up in the corner of the screen and is sometime hard to hit exactley with a large finger. So any app that has a GUI for a mouse can be used with a touch screen.
Or like they said just use a mouse.
