I got a US Robotics Maxg router/print server because it was dirt cheap on sale and to use it in the future when my housing situation changes. The question I have is, can I at the moment use it as an adapter to replace my current b adapter? It doesn't seem like there's a way I configure it to do just that. If not could I use it to make a one-computer network and try to connect that wirelessly to the main LAN? (Or I suppose, would I be able to alternately use the main Linksys Router as just an adapter and switch them around?) Thanks.

The 802.11g standard is backwards compatible with 802.11b. You should be able to set it up for use as a replacement adapter. Check the TCP/IP properties under your network adapters properties and ensure that they care configured the same.

Very few Routers can be used a Wireless Client (i.e. plugged to a computer and talk to another Wireless Router).

If the Wireless Router Data indicates that it is WDS than it can serve as a client.

I know that the Linksys is Not WDS (Belkin and Buffalo have WDS Models).

Thanks. After rooting around a bit at the USR website, it does appear to be WDS enabled. Now I'll just need to figure out the other network's MAC and see if I can get them to communicate
