Using The Same Data File On Two Computers On The Same Network?

Pretend I don't know anything about computers.:(

My wife and I have W10 computers on the same network. We both use a checkbook program, but it is only on her computer; she hates it when I tie up her computer using the checkbook.

Is there any way we can both get at the data file? Well, I know there are probably 20 ways to do it, but I mean a way that a complete novice can set up?

We only use the program a few times a week, for a few minutes each time; so the chances of us both trying to access it simultaneously is small.

    Thanks.

Install the program on your computer too. Providing you have shared the file and have access to it across the LAN you can access it just as your wife can, provided you aren't both doing so at the same time.

How do I share a file?

As you are a networking noobie I suspect it might be easier to persuade the wife to let you continue using her computer for the time being, but you could start to educate yourself on the necessary steps by working through this tutorial. Note that you need to scroll up to Option One and perform that first.

Way way too complicated. I couldn't even find half the stuff.

10 years ago I had some software that, when installed on both computers, made it look like each had two disks. Didn't really use it, so I got rid of it.

I tried putting the file on the cloud (one something or other) and set up both to access it, but it didn't up date properly and the other person could get an old version.

Put the file on a flash drive and then just move the flash drive between the two computers.
Also, as a backup, copy the file after every update to a folder on the computer it's plugged into.
