    Hi

I have had problems with my XP network - so may have to upgrade to brand new PCs etc.

I currently run a peer to peer network for 8 PCs with one PC identified as the main "server" which runs XP Pro. The aim would be to replace all PCs with new models and with Windows 8 (or 8.1 if this is better?) - so that I have no compatibility issues.

I have not yet used Windows 8, so would appreciate any comments.

    1) I understand that there is no limit to the number of computers that can be networked to the Windows 8 HomeGroup - does anyone know if this is correct?

    2) Where I only need 8 PCs to talk effectively to the one that holds our main data (which is on an external encrypted drive) I am thinking the simplest upgrade is to continue a Peer to Peer network - any thoughts about this, or should I look at a real server?

    3) Are there any other aspects I should think about before embarking on this big step?

Thanks as ever to you kind people at Major Geeks - I have found you guys to be the most helpful and accurate. I am a competent amateur, but by no means a proper techie.
