UT2004 Dedicated Server

I've got a spare box to run as a dedicated server on an 1Mbit ADSL connection, although I do seem to have an uncapped? upload. (I can get around 70kbytes/sec upload on a good day, usually around 35-40k/s).

    Two questions:

    1. Anyone know what ports I need to forward to the box, I have ports 7777, 7778, 7787 and 28902 open as instructed on www.unrealtournament.com. The server is listed but I can't connect to it.

    2. Anyone in the UK interested in playing, I prefer playing against people I know or are invited. Mostly just me and mates wanna play, but anyone here is invited. PM or message me here for more details.

I gather it's possible to run 6 or so players on a normal (256kbit/s) upload connection so this shouldn't be a problem on my connection provided the ping times are reasonable. The dedicated server will e running on my laptop, (Dell D800, 1.4Ghz Mobile Pentium, 512MB RAM).

I did try on the 'official' Majorgeeks server but I'm getting pings of 250+ ms and it's virtually unplayable. Not that I'm any good anyway...

you need to have whatever port youre running the server on, webadmin interface is usually on 80 i think, it depends what youve got set in your ini file (UT2004.ini by default)

I may join you if i get a spare moment later ;) i can send you my UT2004.ini file if you want, but its changed because i also run a web server amongst other things on the box i run the server on.

    4 UT2004-1 7777 7787 | 192.168.0.x
    5 UT2004-2 28902 28902 | 192.168.0.x
Theres the settings on my router

That'd be it, I haven't changed the ini file at all, I'll go have a look now. I have got the web server as well, I've moved it to port 88 because I also run a web server, but it's on a different box.

Cheers, we shall see how it goes. If I put a password on, it'll just be "Rex" for now :)

Nope, sorry. The .ini file is set to use port 7777 which is forwarded to the server.

    edit: Will fiddle more tomorrow.

How's this for depressing: My work laptop is faster playing UT than my main PC :-(. Time to spend some money!

    Aha....
did you change the "behind NAT" to true?
look for the follow in your ini :
    Code:
     ...
     [IpDrv.MasterServerUplink]
     ...
     ServerBehindNAT=False
     ...

change that value to true and hopefully this will alleviate the problem.

It hit the shelves yesterday.... and I need help with writing a batch file for a dedicated server. I used the same one I had for UT2003( with appropriate map name and mutator changes) but for some reason this time I'm not connecting to the Epic Master Server list. The message boards at PlanetUnreal are a bit less than helpful :\

Ach!! I hope i get the same soon then! *waits for post from amazon!*

Me also, going to get rid of demo server, and keep the ut2004.ini file (i got it set up all nice see ;) )

Iceman, what you want the batch file to do? you using a custom ini file? cause that would make more sense than using a batch file to give it all the settings. Presumabley youre using the standard "if it crashes, start it again" type thing at the mo.

Realeases over here tomorow, w00t!! Hope i get it before the weekend!

I got the DVD version today. I am currently shopping east coast webservers for a new dedicated server, XP or 2k3, anyone knows of a good hot that aint going to cost me 300 bucks, holler, because I am making calls and looking now. Ill get the server back up ASAP with a pile of Onslaught maps for us all.

Yup, I have altered the default .ini and have a pretty basic batch file that executes either when the machine starts up or wheneve I feel like it. It restarts the server if it crashes, yeah. And I took the crashlog text file generation command out, cause that file was getting enormous.

What i need help with is pretty much how to write one so it has a random gametype and maplist... Bombing Run for one map, Assault tthe next, Onslaught after that, and then switch things up. Without me having to get on the webadmin and change things up.

I've been all over PlanetUnreal.com/theadminpage.... the last archive they have there was suitable for just plain ol' UT, and while some of it still applies, definitely nowhere near all of it does.

sorry to butt in but what is the difference between the regular game and the dvd edition?

The DVD edition comes with a few hours of interviews and footage of making the game, and comes with a headset with a microphone. I think it's like $10 more... I didn't get it cause I couldn't find it. I was stupid and did pre pay :\ Basically it has the conveniece of having all the install data on one disc, instead of 5 :D

Yeh actually i think you can get a normal DVD edition and that "platinum" edition, with the headset and movie DVD. I would have got it, but i dont have a DVD drive!
