Vaio no video output from VGA out

I have a Vaio PCG_Z1MP (Full Everest Summary attached)

When I attach a video projector or a monitor to the vga connector I get no video showing. All other inf comes through OK but there is jus an empty black box where the video content should be.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

configure it as a second monitor in the dispay settings (right click desktop>settings .. you should see two monitors there if there are two monitors connected) ,,, if that doesn't have the features you want, you can click advanced>a pop up will show and click the display tab, there are more options there

 

Thanks Pyrate. I played about in the setting a bit and found that if I set colour quality to 16 bit instead of 32 bit, it works fine. Although why 32 bit should work with the Vaio screen but not with anything else, I cannot figure.
