Various Issues - Freezing, unable to scan, etc...

I'm experiencing some issues with my desktop. I have no clue if they're related or not, and I don't know if it's a hardware thing or software. Some of the problems I encounter are:

• Random freezing of everything except the mouse (sometimes just after start up, sometimes in the middle of whatever I'm doing)
• McAfee is unable to update itself or scan and keeps asking for reinstallation of the suite
• IE just won't run

Among other things (which I may not recall because of the infrequency of use).

I've been looking around for something to explain each of these issues and my thoughts go toward malware of some kind, but I can't scan for it because of the McAfee problems.

I installed HijackThis (following the instructions) and scanned. Results are attached, if it's any help.

I suggest posting this in malware removal for someone there to look at but I dont know if that is considered a bump or not. Have you tried uninstalling the McAfee to try and do the scans?

 

Thanks, I hesitate when I think about reinstalling McAfee because I've had it for 2 years and it's been updated so many times already. I guess it can't hurt, though. I'll repost in malware removal also.
