I am running a Dell Inspiron 8600 with Windows XP Home edition, version 2002, service pack 2. Intel (R) Pentium (R)M Processor 1400MHz, 585 MHz and 256 MB of ram.

I have lost my hibernate feature; it will go into standby but not hibernate. Any way of regaining this?

My back and forward keys at the top have disapeared. How do I restore them?

When I am typing letters the letters will become all jumbled. For instance the next word in the sentence I'm typing will revert back to the beginning of the last sentence I typed.

    Thanks for your help.

for the hibernate problem, right click on your deaktop and select properties. Then click on screen saver tab and click on power. then click on the hibernate tab and check enable hibernate and then apply. this should fix that problem. As for the others give me a minute to think and do a little research.

For gainning your back and forward keys, click view > then toolbars > what is checked? Check all of them and see if that helps.

Is your keyboard wireless, or just a standard keyboard?

The post was sent to me via email. Do I insert the whole laptop or try to figure out how to disassemble the keyboard?

I found the answer so maybe this will be of help to somebody else. The problem is caused by dragging the palm of your hand across the touchpad while typing. The solution is to either be very careful while typing or install a usb mouse and disable your touchpad. I've installed a usb mouse. Does anyone know how to disable the touchpad? Thanks

The touchpad can be disabled in your bios

I know very little about the technical aspects of a computer. Can you tell me how to get to the bios and what to do after I get there. thanks

falconrising: reboot the computer and when it says to hit del or f1 etc. to enter setup hit that key it tells you to.

ps sorry for my earlier post. my apologies and it won't happen again. also forgot you were using a laptop so it really wouldn't have worked.

navigate through your options in the bios until you come to one that talks about your touchpad. then hit enter, and it will give you either the option to enable or disable it. disable it hit esc and go to the option where it says save and exit. choose yes to save and then it will reboot and boom your touchpad is disabled.
