Not sure this should be on this board, yet will ask anyway.
My vcr rejects the tape as soon as it is installed. Would anyone have some knowledge of what it might be. There is no one in my area that works on them.

Hate to lose it, it can be set to record while watching another program. I do not believe they make them like this.

If you are trying to record with that tape, check if the safety tab in the back of the tape is broken, you can replace it with a piece of tape for awhile. If still is rejected, open it and clean it with air, close it an try again if not, probably a sensor gone bad.

Thanks, my problem is that as soon as I insert a tape the vcr clicks on and right away it ejects the tape and shuts off. So I cannot play a tape or record.

Sometimes when the VCR can not pull the tape to put it through the spindles, rejects it, sometimes the guide tape is too long and the sensor senses it as NO tape (the guide tape is transparent) sometimes the pulling belts 1, 2 or 3, (depending on the maker) are so soft and damaged that lost all of their traction force... As I said before, open it and take a look... some models can operate without the lid, some -and depend on the sensors- can not... Try and try to see what it is going on in the moment that you insert the tape, and let us know.
