In this town where I live, they have a small room at the dump, where you can toss what you think can be used. Guess what? I found a computer, with a hard drive!!! Hey 250 Gigs!! So I formatted it and installed into the second dvd player's place. It Works!! but to transfer from my SECOND hard drive into this third 'M' drive, is taking 5 hours for a 1.3 gig archive. WHY? There is a way to making it faster?

Second question: There is a practical way to ADD more Drives, aside from using USB? I know prices are going down, but it is for simple curiosity......

You guys ROCK!!! (and girls too, by the way).

I have been down to Venezuela, where my friends consider me a genius, (yeechh) and everytime they ask, I answer: "ask majorgeeks".
But I think language is a problem...... You won't be able to take questions in Spanish, do you?

    Thank You for being there.

    HDD is SATA or IDE.

(if is IDE) did you connected it directly to the MoBo or through the data bus is connected anything else.

    Cheers.

It is a SATA and I connected it on the same cables used for the second DVD RW that came factory installed. Also, and this is something new, the drive 'M' disappears from Windows Explorer, but reappears after rebooting.

Could you specify the problem again? isn't really clear there...

    I guess:

    C: Local Drive (partition)
    D: Local Drive (partition)
E: CD/DVD (you quited this one instead the disc)
    M: (Disc that you've found 250 gb)

And you're getting problems with "M", is that right or i'm wrong?

You are right Itmortiz, It is a SATA, placed on the same cables that used to connect the second CD\DVD player that came originally with the computer, which is a DELL Inspiron 530 with 3G of memory and running Windows 7. Yesterday I transferred a 1.3 gig movie betrween my First snd second dive, and it took few minutes, when I did the same to the new "m" drive, it took very long time. What do you think if I try connecting to the FIRST CD player?
    Regards.

Hmm yes it sounds logical, because your first and second discs are the same physical one (it just is partitioned in two parts, but is the same HDD)

Transfers HDD to HDD are slow and that's normal. The problem is if you take more than 30 minuts moving or coping 1GB.

Check the new Disc is NTFS and tell us results.

    Cheers.

I could be WAY off base with this, but could this be related to incorrect jumper settings?

If is a SATA Disc the jumper does nothing, that's only for old discs as IDE. SATA automatically could choose if is Master 2nd Master or Slave etc...

    I understand that...

If disc use to dissapear maybe is a broken one who knows, i'd use a tool to fix or check the disk first.

OK my well intentioned friends, I did reach a Salomonic decision: I bought one of these $14 external drive enclosure, use the drive as a USB and decide if the BUS, (truck, Train?) of the CD player isn't up to the expected speed. I won't close this case until receiving the gadget, use the same drive and, IF the results improve, then I'll let you know. OK?
Thank You all for your effort.
I more then ever, appreciate your advise, your lessons. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you.:-D

Hi Itmortiz, it was the hard drive tha was defective. As soon I received the hard drive enlcosure, I removed it and installed through the USB port. Tried to move a movie into it.... and no hope; slow as a snail. Replaced it with another drive, and moved the movie in 50 something seconds.

    Thank you all again.:-D
