veggie oil submerged computer

    Pretty trippy stuff there.... makes me want to buy an aquarium and gallons of Wesson ;)
    I would think one of those setups would keep everything at room temperature with no problems. If a bubbler was added like I saw in some of those videos, it would keep the oil at room temp, if you added a chiller, the oil would become real thick and fans wouldn't spin, but they don't need to....

    Interesting link, thanks.

    I would recommend using mineral oil, as vegetable oil goes rancid after a while, especially as it is warmed.

    In powerline engineering oil immersed transformers are common for cooling.

    hmmmm and mineral oil maybe does not get rancid? :confused or does it after a while? :p

    how about some Mobil 1 synthetic? Won't gel up, rot, stink, or grow bugs.

    The question is: can the hard drive be submerged in the oil too??? If it's airtight/watertight, it shouldn't be a problem. But I have seen some drives with a 'breather' hole...... :confused
