Ventrilo and vista! Problems

When I download ventrilo and go to start it up, its suddenly encounters a problem and shuts down with no explanation. Ive talk to the people from vent and they dont even know. There is no firewall up or anything. Ive been told to go right click on the vent icon and select properties..and then compatibilty, and check use as adminis...but that is grayed out for me. And I am on the admin account!
Some things ive already tried with little success.
-ive downloaded and uninstalled just about every version I could.
-Spoke to vent customer service. they fail =/
-Ive turned off every firewall of any kind off on the computer. Athough i dont think thats the issue or it would tell me it was being blocked.

Are you running windows vista or windows XP? From the sounds of it, it seems possibly Vista. Has this ever worked before?
