Ventrilo

I dont know if you ever had any experiance with a voice chat program called Ventrilo (www.ventrilo.com), but anyways I have tryed to host the program and it doesn't let others connect to my server.

To start a server you have to download the server program from the website, then you have to execute some commands in the prompt and then the server starts up and then you are supposed to be able to tell other people you IP address and then they connect to it. Well I give them my IP and it doesn't let people connect to it.

I am behind a Linksys router and have a cable modem. I am also sure that I am not giving them the mask or whatever the router puts on the IP. Any ideas on how I might get this crap to work?

 

OK GO HERE: http://192.168.1.1/DMZ.htm

And set the last three numbers to match your internal IP.

This is the EASY way of fixing this if you want to know more maybe someone can explain the port forwarding!

 

when i click on the link that you gave me it asks for a password and crap and a username

that ip address is a private ip address. it will probably not take you anywhere but your own modem

Maybe he meant to give you this ip

its the one that usually takes you to your modem settings

if you are using dsl and cable modems that is

http://192.168.100.1/

or I could be way off

I've found Ventrilo to be kinda crappy, unless they've upgraded since I last used it. About the best thing for multiple users that I've found is TeamSpeak or RogerWilco. If you're interested in only talking to one person at a time try Skype.

 

i have used many voice chat programs like roger wilco, but i have found that most of them have very crappy sound, but ventrilo is awsome. that is if it works. lol

 

You really shouldn't use DMZ unless you have to. It exposes ALL ports on your router for that IP.

I'd find the specific port that you'll need to open just for Ventrilo server to work & only open that one. I think it's "3784", but you can search the internet & find it...
