Verizon UM175 broadband

"All right sparky, here's the deal."

A friends laptop crashed, and he is trying to get his wireles verizon on his desktop. We have the install disk that contains the drivers and stuff, but as I installed the software, When i get to the point where it says insert the device, it is recognized as a Best Data Data fax modem. I tried to go into device manager and update driver to the Pantech modem, that was installed with the disk, but Windows keeps sayin there is not a better match for current device. When I chose I will choose the device from a list, it gives me a list of manufactures, like dell, compaq,etc. etc. but Pantech is not on there. I called Verizon but that guy was an idiot. He gave me a web site, and said sorry. Thnaks for any advice.
Oh the OS is XP Pro SP1, and the name of the modem is UM175 usb modem
