Vertical Line On Screen

This morning I was using my Toshiba laptop (A105-S2101) and a thin, purple-ish veritcal line appeared suddenly in the left third section of the screen. Shutting down and restarting doesn't eliminate it. Do I have a hardware problem or is it something that can be fixed relatively easily? Will the problem get worse in time or possibly stay the same? The computer is quite usable but I'd still like to eliminate the line if possible. Thanks in advance....Ed

 

How old is it?

Have you checked it has the latest drivers installed etc?

 

I purchased the computer a year or two ago (memory failure on MY part rolleyes). I tried to locate any new drivers but it appears none are available. I suppose the best I can do is to plug the computer into an external monitor to determine if the problem is in the display. Trouble is, I'm visiting a strange city and don't know anyone here who can help. I have a strong feeling it's a video chip or screen problem. If it stays the same, I can live with it for now. Thanks for the help.

 

If it's still under warranty then get in touch with Toshiba (or the retailer that you purchased it from).

 

Wouldn't you know it! I bought the computer 10/17/06, so it's not even 2 weeks out of warranty! :cry. If the line doesn't get any worse I'll just live with it...

 

Is the warranty only a year? Most offer 3 years parts and labour so worth trying....

 

I checked the manuals and Toshiba only offered a 1- year limited warranty. If I do find out it's the screen that's the problem I may just bite the bullet and have it replaced. I'll wait a little while, though, to see if it gets worse (or even ,by some miracle, clears itself up). I'm getting used to it being there....

 

There is a recall on Dell Inspiron 9200 and 9300 screens due to vertical line problems.

Everything's been OK for a while now. The line is absolutely gone. There have been a few times when it has tried to reappear but its basically a thing of the past now. Thanks for the replies.
