very bizaare problems with websites on my network

This is a problem I had no idea where to start with. On my network(cable, linksys hub) I am having problems with websites coming up. The weird thing is is it is only certain websites. Google and my hotmail do not come up at all, and sites like this one and a few others come up very very slow. Others work just fine. What the?

 

First, see if the problem presists when directly connected to your modem.

Clear all of your browser cache, history, cookies, and set everything to defaults. Make sure that google and hotmail aren't on the restricted sites list.

Check your hosts file for strange entries. The only line you need (that's not commented out) is 127.0.0.1 localhost.

Do all of the computers on your network do this?

Check for spyware/adware. There's a list of things to check for somewhere on this forum...but I cannot remember where it is. Also check for viruses!

Disable all software firewalls installed on your PC. Including the the built-in one in XP if applicable. Sometimes if you're running ZoneAlarm, simply disabling it will not stop it, you have to uninstall it.

What is the OS of the PC experiencing this? Service Pack?

Those are the basics, but you need to provide more information if none of these work. And are you sure you're using a hub and not a router? Hubs aren't very common anymore.....

 

Lol.... always check the obvious.

All I did was reset my modem and router and now everything is working fine.
