Very Dull Screen

Hello All and before i start i would like to say Happy New Year and Thankyou to Everyone who has helped me in the past!!!
I have had this issue with my laptop for quite a while now, I had to replace a broken inverter power cable early last year and since then when ever my machine is on battery power the screen is very,very,very dull, using the fn (f7-f8) for the brightness has no effect what so ever. The battery is the original that came with the machine but still holds a good charge, my laptop is an E-System 3086 Intel M420 1.6Ghz 2.0 GB Ram running Windows 7 Ultimate, I know its not the best of machines but it serves me well and i have had very little problems with it (fingers crossed ) it is mainly only used for surfing/email and streaming movies and football (soccer to the american contingent !!!). Anyway i was wondering if there is some sort of setting that i am over looking or will it be that i need to replace the battery, (it is now four years old), though it still holds a good charge up to around 2 hours!!!.

Open Power Options in Control Panel.
On the left side, click Choose when to turn off the display.
Click Change Advanced power settings.
Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Scroll down to Display.

Dim Display After
• On Battery: 0 Minutes

Turn Off Display
• On Battery: 0 Minutes

Dim Display After
• On Battery: 0 Minutes

Dimmed Display Brightness
• On Battery: 100%


Click OK
