Very Hot GPU

The fan on the 8600GT on my dad's computer broke last week, so I took it out and thought not much of it (my dad's computer is very well ventilated, and I keep it pretty much dust-free). I installed Speccy and took a look at the temps, and it reported the GPU at 107C.

    Whoops :-o

The graphics card still works (thank God) but guess who's buying a new Accelero S1 Rev.2 cooler!

107C is not too bad but troublesome if left unchecked. Use your nVidia SW to adjust the fan higher, maybe to %60. It will sound louder but not too bad. That's what I would do.

I said that the fan broke (would not turn anymore) so I took the fan out of the heatsink. I'm guessing that's why it would be running so hot.

I'm going to put an Accelero S1 Rev.2 on there and that should lower the GPU temp considerably.

Also, the XFX 8600GT cards are known for not having fan controls (the fan has to either run at 100% or not at all, there is no SW control).

I missed that part. You know what you have to do.;) You want a 9800GT free but for shipping costs? I may as well give it away here.:) PM me.

I really hate GPU cards with fans and heatsinks!
But, having said that, I have one. :cry

And, when the little fan, sitting down inside the heatsink got hot and fried, I was not ready to shut down my PC till I could find a replacement, somewhere on the internet. So what to do?

Well, I went to my junk box and found an old K6 cpu cooler that was the same size as the GPU heatsink and HOT Glued it to the heatsink. Now my GPU runs cooler than ever and the problem is solved at Zero Expense.
I have a few more fans that I can use, if the current one shoots craps.
Here's a little look at my Video Card with the new fan on top of the heatsink:

It's not a high end video card, but hey, it works for me!

    Cheers Mates,
