    Good morning,
Running Windows 10 up to date on a DELL desktop with 16GB RAM.
I recently went through an exercise to ensure that everything was up to date, I had developed a few error messages for routine tasks. During this process, I ran the DELL update manager and it advised I had an out of date BIOS. I was running 4 and it advised I update to 9. I did, install went smoothly, everything restarted and the new "feel" was very stable.

Since then startup has become an issue, it seems to hang at various points. Sometimes the screen remains dark (I did update the HP monitor driver after this), sometimes it hangs at the DELL splash screen. the ONLY remedy is a hard shutdown and restart. Occasionally it is required to restart 2-3 times to be fully successful. this has occurred only after the BIOS upgrade so I'm pretty sure that is where to start.

Any ideas what could have caused this and how to correct it?

I am going to run a full DELL service diagnostic now, 40 minutes. Also should probably run SFC.

Ensure the BIOS is set to Default Settings.

    How do I do that?
I also recall an earlier issue years ago where the boot string of information in msconfig needed to be updated.

We don't know your PC's model or the type of UEFI. (I doubt your PC's motherboard has a BIOS)
Visit DELL's website, type in the PC's model number, look for the manual and download it.

Dell Insperion 3847 (I ran DELL diagnostics and passed everything)
I was able to get into the set up screen using F2
    UEFI is Windows Boot Manager
Selecting F9 labeled Load Optimized Default with the disclaimer that this action will reset the Secure Boot Keys, do I wish to continue? (I have NOT selected yes yet, not knowing what impact resetting the secure boot keys will have)
the BIOS installed is A09 dated 1/25/2018 downloaded and installed from DELL Support

Upon exiting F2 I got a quick flash too fast to read it all but started with there have been multiple attempts to restart this computer that encountered issues at checkpoint 00092

It's probably best to contact DELL as the above doesn't really indicate what the problem is.

    Have you scanned for rootkits?

Yes, I've done this now, log attached but it does not seem to identify specific repairs if any, but I am not sure how to read it.

    The log shows no problems.
Let's concentrate on your other thread.

Thanks and I have good news but not sure why...
Per the other thread, I uninstalled the DELL support software. I also decided to ensure that all drivers were up to date based on the comments that install from the DELL site is sometimes problematic, so I used Driver Booster by iObit which is part of a utility suite that I have used for years with high confidence. It identified an install for Intel(R) 8 Series/c220 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller which requires a restart. Before I restarted I decided to do a little cleanup by deleting what I have installed over the past few weeks...turned out to be about 6 programs, two of which are heavy on codecs.

Then I restarted and it went smoothly and a bit faster than previously. My best guess is the recent BIOS update required the Intel chipset driver update, but that was made apparent by DELL.

So it could have been the BIOS update or corrupt codecs, I don't think any of the other software uninstalled would have been an issue.

Also, the other issue seems to have been resolved with the uninstall of the DELL support software.
