Ahh, nice to see someone really remember what this day should be for Americans and not just a long weekend to do grilling, we're just as bad. I'm so sorry that you lost him at such an early age.:( Rest in peace sir.

Yeah. Giving it large to all those who are serving, have served and those who have made the biggest sacrifice to ensure we remain free. Of all nations.

We celebrate Veteran's day on June 27th. A very recent addition to the calendar. :clap
    Not a holiday, though. :(

Nice photo, D. That picture of your father is, I swear, the double of a good friend of mine, Jacko the Jock, without a goatee beard. Reminds me of an old time actor, with his hat set at a jaunty angle. But can I hell put my finger on it.

That's the sort of thing we need more of, Pax. Respect for the military. Great advert.

Great pic of your dad, darlene and he looks a fine chap and sad that he lost his life fighting to save us all from tyranny, but glad he and many others did as this world may have been vastly different to what it is now.

To your dad and many others who lost their lives... I will remember your sacrifice and thank you.

I don't know anyone who died while actively serving, but I do appreciate the countless strangers who gave their lives to ensure my freedoms. I only hope I can live up to their expectations.

From one Vet, to all the others out there, both past and present - thank you, peace and God bless. Especially those whose lives were cut short, in service to their nation and humanity. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g309/Zobor/salute.gif

Remembrance Day is Nov 11 over here, but those that have done the hard yards know that every day is a day of remembrance. R.I.P., guys.:major

Didn't mean to misrepresent how he dies but it was after war. He died in a truck accident. I have his license and a small picture of me that burnt from the fire after the crash.
I believe WWll ended in 1945.

My fault not looking at dates properly but still he gave his life to help keep freedom alive and that is to be remembered and I still applaud the ones that did, few of my family served in various parts of the UK armed forces during WWII and not easy stuff and have many pics they left me, still really sad he was taken from you at a young age!

Of course, it should be remembered that it wasn't just the military who gave to fight tyranny. The French, Dutch and Greek resistance, Polish home army, Yugoslavian and Norwegian partisans and even the Italian Committee for National Liberation, an interior movement who were also anti Nazi should be remembered too.
My grandad taught me many years ago to never forget the sacrifices made by non military fighters and those citizens who were just spanners in the works of the Nazi war machine.

    Thought this explains it all:
It is the VETERAN not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion

It is the VETERAN not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press

It is the VETERAN not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech

It is the VETERAN not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble

It is the VETERAN not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial

It is the VETERAN not the politician, who has given us the right to vote

Hope everyone has a fine day, and thanx to all vets.

I'm a veteran myself, and I have to say, thanks for the nice thread.

I think I can speak for most warriors when I say this, but we didn't go into the military to get rich. It's because we believed in defending something, and that something is the Constitution and America.

    Thanks again. Semper Fidelis.
