VGA Driver problem?

I recently reinstalled my operating system, Microsoft XP Professional, and since then I've been having problems. Mainly when I scroll down a page it kind of jumps and flickers. The same kind of thing happens when I try to watch a video, especially when there is fast movement on the screen.
I figured this was probably a video driver problem so I checked my driver installation CD and it seemed like the quick installation hadn't properly installed the VGA driver. I tried to install it again but it seems to think it's already installed. I though maybe uninstalling and reinstalling might work but I have no idea how to go about it.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Cheers!

Sorry, just a few more details; The installation CD is MSI. The driver that won't work is the VIA VGA driver. When I tried again to reinstall I got the message, "Setup was unable to complete the installation. Check the progress log in your Windows directory for more details. (-1)->C:\WINDOWS\s3iscfg.log".
I don't know how to check that.

    Hi Superfallydowngirlie

Yes very likely that the jerking in video and scrolling is due to a graphics driver so could you tell us your PC make and model version of an OEM one like Dell, HP, Sony etc

If you had this PC built specially or by yourself then please list the info from Everest for ONLY the listed items below, dont need the full report.

    Windows Version
    Motherboard name
    Video adapter

all info can be found once running Everest and clicking Computer > Summary

One likely issue with onboard graphics not installing correctly is not installing the motherboard or chipset driver first as this is a major component to allowing other hardware drivers to be correctly installed so your PC or Motherboard maker will have listed for your model the correct motherboard or chipset driver, so install that first then try the graphics driver again.

Ok, I tried reinstalling the chipset driver and than reinstalling the VGA VIA driver but it didn't make any difference.
    As for the info you asked for;
    PC Make: LG
Windows Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Motherboard name: Unknown (but CPU type is Intel Celeron D 341, 2933 MHz (22 x 133))
    Video adapter: VIA/S3 UniChrome Pro

I installed a different firewall this time around. Previously I was using Sygate but I changed to Online Armour. Online armour seems to interfere more with installing. Don't know if this could have anything to do with it.

    Hi

The firewall and Antivrius can interfear with installs, so disable them while installing.

Have you the model version of LG computer, I just wish to check their support and drivers section for any updates.

Also if you go into Device Manager do you have any yellow ! marks, if so by what item?

Is your XP fully upto date will all Service Packs and hotfixes?

Just to clarify this point of mine, where I'm going with this is you may need an updated driver and their are many for the Unichrome GFX solution and are based on the chipset used in the model of PC you have, listing of available drivers are here http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=1&CatID=1160

Hey, thanks for all your help but I seem to have fixed it. I looked through all the programs to see if I could find it and took a leap and removed the VIA Platform device manager. I then turned off the firewall and reinstalled the chipset and the VIA VGA driver and now it seems to be working fine. I guess the firewall was probably the problem.
    Thanks a lot!

I had some stange problems caused by both the software firewall I installed and windows firewall, both running at the same time. When I turned windows firewall off the problems went away. I can't remember for sure what was happening it was a while ago (maybe webroot spysweeper), but normally installing an external firewall turns off windows firewall, but something was turning it back on. That could explain why turning off your software firewall helped.
