vid card

hello all,


for some reason I can not play games on my computer. It keeps saying "unable to get memory size from directdraw" wtf how do I fix this? I mean I cant play any games -.- my video card is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 256mb.

 

maybe it's driver thing, Have you tried other drivers?

 

umm... the driver is downloaded as a .run and I dunno how to open it.

 

go to the nvidia website www.nvidia.com and download the driver, ive never had it as anything but an .exe (or was it a .zip?) either way, it shouldnt be ahrd to install. just uninstall the old driver, reboot, then install the new driver and reboot again. if that doesnt fix it we'll go from there

 

5200 is a little old and wont play games like Doom 3 or HL2...you can get away with Battlefield 1942, but maybe not Call to Duty to well or Far Cry.

My GeForce 5700 ultra barley plays them with good FPS, but my board and processor is old, A7V133 w/1800 AMD xp.

use the nvidia all in one drivers on thier website...that usually works in most cases.

 

k, where would I find this all in one driver?

yea, still no change. also, my screen sometime "blinks" like it will go black for a second.

 

Is the fan on the vid card broke if it has one?
Does it need to be plugged into the extra power cord on back of the card?

reset the resolution?

put the settings on min, 256 or 24 bit?

Is the monitor a POS?

 

no fan, no power cord. my resolution is set to 1152/864 how do I put the settings on min?

its a vga monitor.

now the games says,"zoo tycoon 2 was unable to create a graphic renderer" wtf

 

right click desktop
Proporties
settings
advanced
troubleshoot
slide the slider to the left or right

and look at all the other settings to make sure everything is on that should be.

If you don't have the advanced NVIDIA settings you didn't get the download to install yet.
