Video Audio Or Music Files Making Buzz Or Dj Scratching Like Noise

I've noticed that when I'm watching some videos, the audio of that video will occassionally
sound like it's buzzing or being scratched like a dj does to a record. It's sounds like it's happening due to
some lagging of the system not being able to handle whatever load it's under.

It seems to happen especially when I am photo editing at the same time as the song file playing in the background. But it still happens even when just watching videos on facebook and moving my mouse around or typing at the same time.

I think it has something to do with the graphics card. I'm currently using an old one:
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT. My audio is RealTek High Defintion Audio, and I also NVIDIA
Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM) showing up in my device manager.

I'm not exactly sure which is it that's causing it.
Does anyone know how to fix this buzzing/scratching sound?

    Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1, AMD Phenom II X6 1070T, mobo A880GU3, DDR3 8GB

Ok I figured it out with some more researching.

It's apparently the GeForce Experience installation. It has process called nvstreamsvc that seems to be the culprit.

I just disabled the service from starting up and it's not causing that buzzing/scratching lag in audio anymore.

Hope it helps anyone in the future.

Thanks for the fix, shows how it pays to install only what you need and to check after every installation.

I tried a 'drivers only' Nvidia install earlier, ended up with 4 pieces of their software, one of which I uninstalled immediately. The 'drivers only' routine did prevent the GeForce Experience from installing though. I haven't checked recently how the default Nvidia installer works, maybe the Options section allows a more granular approach.

Yes, to follow up, it definitely did improve the situation once I disabled those services but I did notice a couple hours later
that sometimes I still get that audio lag/buzz/scratching noise. I think that might just have to do with the card not being able to
handle something? I've noticed it happens mostly when I'm photo editing at the same time....when I enlarge the photo and do masking and stuff like that, the sound seems to be affected during that time. But it's definitely working a lot better now since disabling that GeForce Experience services.

It might be as a result of getting 0x117 Live Kernel Events, look for any "watchdog" dumps in C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports\WATCHDOG

If so, you probably need to install an older driver that's more compatible than the recent ones (Nvidia drivers from about a year after the production stopped rarely contain anything new, only extra 'bloat' that's irrelevant to your card). Run DDU to fully uninstall the driver, reboot, install older but more compatible version: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/display_driver_uninstaller.html

I checked that folder (watchdog) and have a bunch from between May 20, 2015- June 11, 2015. Then one more on Sept 18, 2016.
I don't see 0x117? Is that what I am supposed to see?

I'm not familiar with those dumps, so I'd appreciate it if you could copy the latest one to your Desktop and zip it, then attach the zip to a reply.

No, the file name is basically something like type and date, it's the data inside that might be useful. A 0x117 is a graphics logjam that clears up just before it would trigger a blue screen crash. As it's all down to the length of time waiting before either a 117 or 116 are called, it's possible that you would still feel/hear the effects, yet no 117 will be logged - if it cleared itself before that log would happen.

    Thanks, it was a 0x117:

The most likely cause would be the SPTD.sys and a dynamically loaded driver (both are drivers used by Daemon Tools/Alcohol 120%, possibly other similar software). the fix is to uninstall DT/Alcohol 120% and remove the SPDT.sys (http://www.duplexsecure.com/en/faq), as these drivers often used to trigger BSODs, including the 0x116's mentioned above as related to your problem.

thanks! I will try that out and see how it goes and give an update

So just to update now after a few days of usage.....hasn't happened anymore ever since! It seems that sptd.sys file that was installed by daemon/alcohol was the culprit!

    Thanks!

Give it another week or so free from audio glitches before relaxing ;)
