I was wondering if anyone has ever used a product which could take movies off of your video camera and copy them to your computer, or if that is even possible? I know people have made movies and put them on web sites because I have seen them. Do I need a special video camera for that? or can I use the one I have with some type of software/hardware? Any help would be great!

yes its possible... depends on what type of camera you have?

    Just a quick brief overview............

Analogue cameras eg. tape ones would need a graphics card with a capture port to copy the video to your PC.

this company is quite big in video capture hardware and software

Digital cameras/video, would be easier as most of them have either USB or Firewire connections which mosy PCs have one or both of, if you have a small digital camera then alot of them are able to take small movies of a few minutes depending on the media cards size.

Webcams can also take live video movies but downside is that you need to be near your PC.

If you are using XP then MS have a small basic video editing app called MovieMaker, below in the link their is good help on what and how you need to make movies with your PC http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/getstarted/default.mspx

thanks a lot for the reply, that helped a lot. I ordered that program off of ebay, and got a pretty good deal on it, so I am happy. I might need to buy a new camera though I am thinking. I have a Sony Handycam Vision with the 30X digital zoom steadyshot. Model # is CCD-TRV72. I know its not your job to have to go out on the internet and find info on my camera, so I typed that model # into google to see if I could get any info on my camera, and I couldn't. I only found info on batteries which is what made me believe my camera is too old. I have those 3 connections (yellow, white, and red) to connect my camera to a VCR, but obviously I have nothing like that on my computer. I have a Radeon 9800 pro graphics card, but it only has a connection on the back for a monitor. Unless they make a connection that starts out with those yellow, white, and red and then ends with a USB? Unless there is another way to hook this thing up to my computer, but I don't see a way. If I do need another camera, what would you suggest? Thanks again!

The Manual for your Sony Cam is here ( its says TRV62 but its covers a few models TRV72 being one of them ) http://www.docs.sony.com/release/CCDTRV62.pdf

you are correct it looks a if that camera is from 1997 ~ according to the manual date!

from the same company they make capture equipment for older analogue equipment
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/WebVideo/comparisoncharts/doc/discover_dazzle_UK.asp?Langue_ID=2 you would need to read up on which one you need for the camcorder you have now, one good idea would be to either visit your local PC store, email Pinnacle, or maybe someone here on Majorgeeks does alot of video editing and can jump in and suggest something?

Dont actually use camcorders much, mostly digital stills, but I do know my cousin just bought a widescreen digicamcorder and I will find out which one and if he likes it or not.

Alot of info/reviews on camcorders etc
