Video Card brand

What kinda video card would you preffer, Nvidia or ATI?

Both have their good and bad points....

 

Maybe if I only had a better video card

 

So far I would have to say ATI but as soon as I get my new 8xagp motherboard I would reconsider my answer if it is better though..

Last card was an ATI 9700 Pro, which was great except for KOTOR, which would only run with one older driver; everything else was fine.

Current card is Nvidia 6800 GT which is also great... for now...

Next card? Who knows?

i am the type not to only buy one brand i buy whats the best at the time for my price range

I have used both brands. I first started out with a Nvidia 5200, then a ATI 9800 Pro, I didnt like that and then went for a 6800NU. I love the 6800. The 9800 was a nice little card, but it wouldnt play KOTOR for crap, not with any driver changes.

Right now i would go for the 6800GT 256MB. It can be overclocked very close to the Ultra speeds, and it runs very solid.

Also consider what games you are going to be playing. Doom3 has played better with Nvidia, and Half Life 2 better on ATI.

I voted for Nvidia, only because you didn't list 3dfx. hehe Seriously though....I'm a big time Nvidia fan. Had a 3dfx Voodoo2 with 16megs of memory, then got a Nvidia TNT2 again 16megs, got a Geforce2 GTS ( sure loved that card ) with 64megs of DDR memory & I've been hooked ever since.

nVidia has better support for Linux, I've heard, for those who are interested.

 

nvidia because their cards always feel so much smoother to me. call it my imagination...

also, nvidia always has a smattering of drivers, beta drivers... and unreleased drivers for you to fool around with and find the best performance/stability... and ATi may have 1 or 2.... over the course of months.

currently i have a 6800GT running Ultra speeds 100% stable. 400/1100
