    Hi All!

This a silly question, but it's necessary to ask... Are video cards backward compatible? I have an older computer that says it supports 2x/4x agp cards. So I wonder if an 8x card would work? Plus, most cards are DDR now, and my computer is just single SDRAM, will these type cards still work?

Ok, I know that they are still selling exactly what I need, but the truth is, I'm finding some really cheap cards on ebay-- like a nvidia5600/256DDR for a buck-- when it comes to this computer, CHEAP is the keyword. I'm sure that everyone on the planet knows the answer to my question but me, and I'm sorry about the wear and tear on your eye balls having to read this. I do greatly appreciate it :)

    Hi Brassdog

    no guarantees i would imagine
    but...
I am running an 8x AGP card (Gigabyte 7600GS) on a 4x bus and it works fine
    this card has DDR2
    and my motherboard uses RDRAM

Thanks for the info. shanemail -- wow your running a DDR2 card eh? sounds like just about any --non-PCI Express--video card should work. UNfortunately, the card I was watching on ebay went from 1.00 to 16.00 + 10.00 shipping, it's suddenly not worth it. But there is a whole slew of video cards, I'll find something for cheap. It's the kids computer, doesn't have to be top-o-the-line

yep, theres even DDR3 AGP cards out there

If you switch to PCIE, you are basically looking at a whole new computer
-motherboard, RAM, CPU - thats obviously not what you are looking for at the moment.

Ive never tried Ebay - seems a bit sus to me, but I would imagine most people must be happy with it as it is still going.

It will depend on you CPU and RAM (and your current video card !) as to whether there is any benefit to upgrading anyway.
and what games they will be playing.

Feel free to post your stats - and you will get more accurate and indepth advice
