Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

ATI has not supported that GPU for a while now, so this may be problematic.

Found this at GamerHeaven - it's apparently a modified Vista driver:

    6-2_xp-vista_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_30152.zip

Extract the driver file to a C drive location
    Then open Device Manger
Right click on your Display Driver choose Update Display Driver
Choose Browse My Computer for Driver Software
Via the Browse button, locate the extract driver folder and selct
Windows 7 will automatically find and install the driver
    Reboot

Be advised: I have not tried this, but it looks pretty straightforward - keep us posted as to how it goes.

    hi

when installing i get this error.

"setup was unable to complete installation. try to set up your display adaptor with a standard VGA driver before running setup."

    thanks in advance

    Hi

Just a little background info if you can, have you just installed Windows 7 on this PC and What version is it, 32bit or 64bit?

Did you install the chipset driver? check in Device Manager for any yellow ! marks by any device and let us know if you have any and what they are? (asking as for the older 855PM chipset your laptop has Intel dont have listed a Windows 7 driver, so maybe an issue in that you "may" not get this to work properly with Windows 7)

Did you run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor before installing as this can highlight issues a PC spec may have?

i version that i have installed is a 32bit version.

    what is a chipset driver.

there are no yellow marks to any of the item in device manager.

The chipset driver is the software that programs your motherboard's northbridge and southbridge integrated circuits, which in turn link the CPU to various high speed devices and lower speed buses, respectively.

Halo's suggestion to run the Win 7 Adviser is crucial: your machine might not meet the minimum specs necessary for this OS, especially since we know that your GPU is outdated.

    Hi

Could try installing the basic driver Windows installs, but first off uninstall any graphics video driver you have installed already, check add/remove and Device Manager and uninstall, then reboot and then open in Safe Mode (F8 at boot)

Then open Device Manager and oprn the Display Adapters branch, and right click Properties on the display adapter listed > click the Drivers tab > click Update Driver > choose Browse My Computer for Driver Software > click Let Me Pick from a List of Device Drivers on my Computer and hopefully in the list of compatible drivers their is a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter one, highlight that and click Next and follow the prompts to install, once installed reboot.

Then try installing your ATi driver.
