Video Card Driver lost after power off

I just built my PC and powered it up everything was fine. As soon as I installed my driver for my video card my PC started with a Blue Screen fatal error of DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with codes 0xD1, 0x1A8, 0x6, 0xBA70018B and note: nvgts.sys - address BA70018B base at BA6EE000. After this it shuts down reboots and does it over again. I rebooted in safe mode and found that the driver had disappeared. I rebooted again with the driver disk in and it booted fine. If I eject my dvd drive to remove the disk it goes back to the fatal error. I did get it to reboot with the disk out but it only lasts thru loging into windows. I did contact the Video Card and they said I should remove the driver completely, clean out the driver with a program they recommended to assure it was removed and reinstalled but the same thing happened. It runs just fine with the disk sitting in the drive even when the drive is not running but as soon as I eject Fatal Error. HELP!!?? I have an ASUS P5N motherboard, OCZ 2x1024MB memory, Core 2 Duo processor, GeForce 8600GT video card.

 

Welcome to MajorGeeks! Strange problem.... restart and go into the BIOS and disable the CD/DVD drive, save the settings and restart. If Windows behaves and doesn't crash, then we know it's a CD/DVD problem. You made it sound like Windows would crash when you opened the drive; try pressing the button. It should still open and close because it's still getting power. If Windows still crashes, then you have some type of electrical short in the drive or possibly in the power supply. If you have a 2nd video card, or on board video, try 'em, but this really sounds like a CD/DVD drive problem....
