Video Card/Driver or Mainboard - no signal to monitor

Hello,

Upon starting my PC, the monitor said "no input signal." I restarted and tried again. Nothing.

I tried a 2nd monitor with the same result.

I moved the PCI video card to other PCI slots (~4)... none worked.

I had an old AGP video card, and it didn't work either. I think I had problems with the AGP slot in the past, which is why I was using PCI for my video.

I bought a new PCI video card and tried it, same result... no signal. Though, when you change video cards, you're supposed to disable/remove previous drivers. I obviously couldn't do that since I can't see anything. I did buy an ATI brand video card, since the drivers I had were ATI drivers.

Based on the aforementioned, I am guessing my motherboard is the problem. If I start the PC, the fans run, the hard drive starts up, etc... just can't see anything. Is it possible the mainboard stopped communicating with the PCI slots?

Any ideas? I'm sure you need more information than this, but I'm not sure exactly what. Here's some basics:

• Mainboard - P4S5A
• P4 processor
• Five 32-bit PCI slots for PIC 2.2-compliant bus interface

I appreciate any guidance. I don't want to buy (and try to install) a new mainboard until I am certain that's the problem.

 

If a barebone setup OUTSIDE of the case will spin fans & light LEDs up, but won't post (no video), the mobo could be bad due to a bad bios flash, etc. A bad bios flash can be fixed by replacing the bios chip with a good one.

If it does the same INSIDE the case, it could be shorting out something. i.e. loose screws stuck in between mobo & metal back plate.

Download the manual if you don't have one & look up troubleshooting & any install issues/notes.
