Video Card Dying ?

My own thoughts is it is but I wanted a second opinion

So I currently use a Radeon HD 6000 series card, it's been in one other computer and it has drivers for windows 8 and 8.1 which are installed.

I currently have things setup so that my moniter does not turn off by sleeping as I tend to turn it off manually when not in use.

So with all that my issue is this:

When I let my computer go idle after about 5min my monitor turns off... is this my video card basically giving up on me ?

I have recently uninstalled the drivers (rebooted) and installed them again.

I've had the card for a number of years (think this is my 2nd or 3rd year maybe more)

As I said it's a video card I still have the onboard video I can use, basically means I can't play any graphically enduced games because it doesn't support the nifty stuff that my Radeon does, but if need be I'll use the onboard until I can get my hands on another one.

every so often a small thing slips by unnotice and you never think about it as you always think it's a bigger problem...

as that's what happened to me as i thought my video card was dying then when i pulled it out and still had the same issues i thought my monitor was dying but earlier I upgraded from windows 7 to 8 to 8.1 and the theme I was using re-activated it's screen saver so the screen saver that it would use was "blank screen"

Not sure what triggered my thought of looking but glad I did before I ran out to buy another monitor to have the same problems...

Oh well if someone else learns from this like I did then I get to help someone,

For now I get to feel like an idiot
