MB specs call for PCIE X 16 Video Card in the P5N-E SLI MB, full "x16" if not using SLI (which I am NOT), I would like to upgrade my current card but not finding much for "x16", lots for "2.0" and "2.1", so can I put a 2.0 or 2.1 card in this MB - what will I sacrifice if anything, no gaming - it is my wife's computer -

    Thanks

There will be no real sacrifices. Think of those video cards as being PCIe x16 Version 2.0 or PCIe x16 Version 2.1. The x16 refers to the amount of data the slot/card will carry. The version 2.0 or 2.1 refer to which PCIe standard the slot/card meets. Version 2.0 and 2.1 both work at the same speed and are compatible with each other. Your board has a PCIe x16 Ver. 2.0 slot and either type will work.

Also, if you're not doing any gaming then almost any card will do is this one dying that you want to replace it?

THANKS guys, I kinda thought that was the case, just wanted to verify -

No augiedoggie, the current card is fine, just wanted to update to a card that allows for "direct x 10", for when I upgrade OS's to Windows 7 or newer -

Thanks again - hope you have a Great New Tear

augiedoggie - the new video card is for my wife's computer, it is not listed in my sig - I also just put more RAM into it and OC'ed the CPU (C2D E6300) about 10% - I built both computers and try to upgrade something in each every 6 months or so -

You mentioned that you have a GTX 260 - does the fan make a horrible noise at start up ?? then quite it down when the speed reduces to 40% - the card has a lifetime warranty, I have thought of returning it but was told I would receive a reconditioned card - so I am holding on to this one until it just blows up :)
