Hi! I'm looking to purchase a new video card as I have a really old one (128mb radeon 9200) I don't have loads of money to spend - maybe around 160 euros (180 dollars). I've been advised to get a PowerColor Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB DDR AGP8X. Can anyone tell me if this is a good idea?? Or any other suggestions? I want to able to play top games close to top performance. My system is excellent in my opinion - XP Pro, 3.0 Ghz Pentium 4, 1gb ram, etc. Thanks!

6600GT is about the best you can do for that price, and from what I've read it will do any game out today at max detail

And is that a 128 or a 256? Does that actually matter?

    6600gt or if you can 6800nu ;)
I have a 6600gt and I am pleased with with it's performance but it will not
run all games at max levels; even though I run all my games @ 10X7 or 12X9 (because I like these resolutions-due to having a 19" monitor, and I don't like
to squint), most games I just leave it set to 2AQ/16AF as my default, sometimes I go to 4AA/8AF-It just depends on the game.

If I could do it over again I would fork over the extra and get atleast a 6800nu, just for the extra pipes-it's not that much more.

    good luck.

BTW I have a Barton@2.3 Ghz and 1 GB of Ram (DDR 400)

Mellow man your cpu is the bottleneck in your system a faster vid card will show little improvement,a barton 3200 though and your sytem would fly new egg has a refurb for $140

    A Barton @ 2.3 Ghz is probably a 3200+

P.S. That's not a refurbished processor. It's an OEM. There is a big difference, and I don't know if they even sell refurbished processors...

It says refurb,I just figured it was one that was returned and found to be working,I cant tell from price whether its oem or a refurb because stuff is priced different over there,a 3200 barton is 2.2ghz,My friend has one and doing some things it seems faster than my 64,but the 64 wastes it in most areas especially gaming. ;)

Omegs right, top quality is everything set to max,8xAA,16xAF at 1600x1200 resolution!Few systems can manage that, but any game you play in the next year will blow you away!

Its also a perfect match with your system :D :) :)

EDIT all new cards have tv out,so you can hook it up to your tv,using a dvi cable and what we call in the UK a scart socket
