video card help

i recently used system restore on my comp to fix an virus problem. now, when i look under display settings, instead of saying Geforce 4 MX 440 (my vid. card) as the display, it says "Default Monitor on" and nothing else. I tried installing the drivers and everything. Does anyone know how to help me fix this?

 

Try booting into Safe Mode and reinstalling your video drivers from there.


And if I were you I wouldn't trust System Restore to fix a virus, it's notorious for reinfecting systems with a virus. You need a good, updated antivirus program.

 

im not sure how to get into safe mode, how do you?

 

Also, check your BIOS settings and make sure the onboard sound hasn't somehow gotten reset to the "ON" position. Windows shouldn't even see that if it's disabled. If yours is set with a motherboard jumper, make sure the jumper is securely in place. If it was just barely attached, it may have vibrated loose.

Actually, I was posting an answer in this thread in Drivers . I have NO idea why it ended up attached here.

I guess I'll cut & paste it where it belongs and hope it stays attached. This is the second time that's happened to me, although the first time it was in the same forum and a somewhat related thread, and I thought I'd simply screwed up. Couldn't have screwed up THAT badly.
