Video card performance, DX11, and possible upgrade

I'm currently running two NVidia GTX260 c216 video cards in SLI, and I'm really happy with the performance, but the lack of DirectX 11 support is starting to slowly chew at the back of my brain. I could sell the two cards, add a few bucks, and grab a single GTX470; or I could sell one of the cards, add a few bucks, and grab a GTX460 (or GTX465) and use the remaining GTX260 for PhysX until I get enough money for a 2nd GTX460/465, or I could just hang on to the two GTX260s for a few more months to see what develops on the video card market, but I'm afraid that if I wait too long, my GTX260s will lose some value or will become more difficult to sell for a decent amount of money. So- any thoughts, suggestions, advice, or recommendations are encouraged and will be considered.

    THANKS!

Well there aren't many DX11 games yet so unless you just have to have DX11 cards, you aren't missing anything waiting a while.

nVidia 4xx cards may come down in price a bit while you wait. Also as ATI will have their 6xxx series cards coming, the 5xxx series (which are DX 11 cards) will drop in price too.

I agree with scajjr on the dx11 thing. Unless you need dx11 for something else, games just aren't there yet (they still have dx9 support for xp users) . For instance, the new games coming up that I'm keeping an eye on, Call of Duty: Black Ops, is just a re-hash of Cod: MW2 with some enhancements. There's an expansion for Battlefield BC2 coming. Since it's only an expansion, it's not gonna change the game engine. Yes, I think it supports DX11, but I don't know the difference. Until XP goes away completely, dx11 probably won't become standard.

My advice would be to get one card without SLI as I found SLI to be a real pain when I used to use it. It gave almost no performance increase and just wasted my time and money. I would recommend selling both cards and getting the GTX460 as no game on the market should be able to overload that. (surely?)

That's what I'm hoping, but if I wait too long, my pair of GTX260 cards may not be as sale-able for decent amount...
ATI (actually, ATI has officially disappeared; AMD has completely dropped the ATI name and now are going with just AMD) cards are not an option. I have an NVidia based motherboard, and it's SLI capable, and no AMD will ever go into this system. ;)
:confused I have had no problems with SLI at all other than my top video card running a bit hotter, but I remedied that by installing a front intake fan in my case with a higher CFM. Running SLI has almost doubled my benchmarks, and in real-world gaming, I can now run Metro2033 with almost everything on highest settings (I have to keep AA and AF turned down to 4x or below). All other games (CoD MW & MW2, Battlefield BC2) now run perfectly at the highest settings. With the single card, I had to use medium, and turn off AA and AF, so SLI has provided a HUGE boost in gaming performance. My display is 20", so I run everything at 1680x1050. I've seen several reviews where the GTX460 (both the 192bit and 256bit versions) in SLI are kicking some serious butt in real world gaming....

I've seen some DX11 stuff side-by-side with DX10 stuff, and the difference is ASTOUNDING!!! But, I think I'll wait a bit. I think around XMas or shortly after the New Year, there will be some serious price drops and/or sales. I think I'll capitalize on those. But if I freek out and MUST grab a DX11 card, I'll probably sell one GTX260, and install a GTX460 256bit and use the GTX260 for PhysX for awhile, but I'll probably just wait until XMas....

.... unless someone wants to send me a pair of GTX460s ;) my birthday is coming up in about 3 weeks LOL

I should point out that I was SLI'ing a pair of 8800GTs on a mid-range motherboard on games that did not officially support SLI so that is why it was poor for me. I am not saying SLI is poor overall, just that I had trouble.

Curious what MB you are running that would not accept AMD 5970?
I had pair of 8800's and gave up, too much effort for too little gain. So far the 5970 has been faster and more compatible.
Asus P6T, Intel 930 at 4GHz right now.
