video card problem: is it the driver?

Hello, once upon a time I was a geek. I could fix my commodore 64 or my PC 486 just fine.
Now a days I can't even install my video drivers without some help.
This is my problem:

I have an asrock motherboard, (product info: P4I45gx_PE, socket FC-478, I don't know if this make any sense). I have a Pentium 4 and I am using windows xp, (version 5.1.2600).-
As a I am no longer a certified geek when my computer broke down I sent it to a technician who fixed it by reinstalling everything but not my video drivers.
The video card simply is not working, I have tried unistalling it and actualize the controller but the message is always the same, "error in the software".
I wonder if the problem are my drivers, (or the cd where they are), so I also wonder if someone could provide a link to one to download.

To answer your question I have an on-board card. I am planning to buy good vide card in the holidays because If I buy one now I will be probably laid off, there are so many great games to play!!!
