I think that I have seriously screwed my computer up, but hopefully someone here will be able to help out. I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RB52 that I wanted to upgrade the video card in. I bought an nVidia GE Force 8600 that fit in my PCI express slot.

Before installing the card, I went into the device manager and uninstalled the onboard Intel video card driver and then shut down the computer. I put the new graphics card in and started the computer up. The monitor came on and everything seemed to be working fine until the power went out in my house just before I had a chance to install the driver, but after the computer had fully started up and was sitting on the desktop. I turned the computer back on and got no video, so I tried plugging the monitor into the onboard video and then I got a signal.

I figured that I would try the same thing again, so I went to the device manager and uninstalled the video drivers that showed up and shut the computer down. Now, I get no video from either the onboard video or the video card, just a black screen.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Shut down, and take the video card out.
    Restart, using on-board video.
Uninstal driver again, then, shut down, power off, unplug main supply lead, and monitor plug, give it a couple of minutes, put in graphics card, and try again.

I have tried rebooting the computer with the video card taken out and with every other card and peripheral removed and I still get no video from the onboard video.

Do you get a beep, at all, when you startup?
Do you see anything on the screen on bootup at all - like logo, or, prestart wording on screen ?
I hope you have earthed yourself to remove static, when working inside, or touching internals.

By the way, welcome to majorgeeks.
I have to go offline, but if you look in , someone at majorgeeks might come on with other tests/solutions.

I have been careful to ground myself when working inside the computer.

I do not get a beep and there is absolutely nothing that shows up on the screen. The only noise that I get is loud fan noise.

Is it possible that I may have fried the mother board by only having a 305 watt power supply unit when the video card calls for a 325 watt power supply unit?

    No beeps at all.
    Remove ram, and all periphials, usb attatchments etc;
If you have a spare stick of ram, no matter how small, try putting that in.If no spare try one stick only of the ram you have, if you have more than one try the other/s if it still will not post.
Restart and see if you get a beep.

    Your model......
Your Product Code and Serial Number are located on the bottom of your VAIO notebook or at the back of your VAIO desktop. For VAIO notebook VGN-X505VP / VGN-N Series, the Serial info is located behind the battery (not underneath).

The first 8 digits are your product code, the last 7 digits are your units Serial number

If you have another power supply, just to test , it could eliminate that , know someone who has one you can borrow?- they are relatively cheap, nowadays (compared to motherboards, if it turns out to be the psu.)

I cannot find any recommended video cards, yet, so I am unable to see if the one you have tried is compatable - some motherboards have problems with different cards and might work with a bios update, but without the other product code, and serial number of your pc, Vaio are not easy to find support.
