Okay, I think I'm having trouble with my card, but I'm not sure why. Here's the scoop.

We just formatted and installed Windows XP, and the scrolling on web pages is wave-like, instead of smooth and quick. Also it's slow in our email program, Outlook Express. I updated the drivers, scanned for spyware, ran HiJack This, all to no avail, except for a short span of time (overnight) when it would scroll properly. When I go to Device Manager, it would show a yellow exclamation point, and on properties it would say "This device cannot start (code 10)" In Device Manager, it tells me I have an Nvidia Geforce 2 MX. When I downloaded the Nvidia Forceware drivers from MG here, it changed, and told me I have Nvidia Geforce 2 MX/MX 400. I know what I have on my machine in actuality is a Geforce 2 MX 400.

Anyway, I downloaded Nasty File Remover, and looked for every Nvidia driver on my machine, and found about 20 files. I removed them all, except "nv4_disp.dll Nvidia Compatible Windows 2000 Display Driver, Version 56.72" which would not let me remove it. I would check the box to remove it, it said it was removed, and when I scanned again, there it was.

Also, in RegCleaner 4.3, on startup, I have repeatedly removed the following 3 items from startup, and they continually reappear: I'm sure they are Nvidia related:

    1. NvCPIDaemon RunDLL32EXE C:\Windows System 32\NvCpl.dll.NvStartup Loaded from HKEY_LM\Run
    2. NvMedia Center RunDLL.32EXE C:\Windows System 32NvMcTray.dll.NvTaskbarlnit Loaded from HKEY_LM\Run
    3. Nwiz Nwiz.exe./install Loaded from HKEY_LM\Run

So, what the heck is going on? Is my video card defective? Do I need to do something with System Restore? (It's off right now)

    I'm running XP Professional,
I have 2 40 gig hard drives, 768 DDR RAM, the VGA Nvidia Geforce 2 MX 400 64M video card, and Athlon 1.3 Thunderbird processor.

    Let me know your thoughts,
    Eric

Did a search on Google and found this:

Re: GeForce 4 MX 440 - "Device cannot start" Code 10 with XP "SOLUTION"look guys, i had the same problem since i installed a realtek device for a home network and i pushed the 'activate device' button from device manager. i believe that this problem can turn up after installing a device, especially manually in the slots (pci i think, not sure). i tried everything. new drivers don't help. the manual of the realtek device said that sth like that is possible to happen (so it's not faulty device of GeForce 4 MX 440 ). it happens due to a conflict of the auto assigned numbers,so manually sb has to assign manually numbers from bios in an option about hardware. try that at first, it might work.
bottom line,my ge force 4 mx 440 stoped giving that error when i de-activated the realtek-new-installed device from device manager or any new-installed device and restarted. that simple! it said nothing about conflict.
try out and let me know. if this doesn't work i'll suggest other solutions. Greece=the land of recondite knowledge

Since I installed a Realtek driver for my ethernet card, I thought this may be the problem. After dinner I'll try more things.
