Video card question

I think my Motherboard only supports 4xAGP. If I get a 6600GT how much will this inhibit it?

 

Also, how does it compare to the AIW 8500 Radeon 128MB?

Could you give your mobos model and other system specs? If you have an old mobo, memory and processor, the 6600GT is not for you.

Radeon 8500 is two generations older than 6600GT and loses in performance... A LOT. I wouldn't even consider using one for gaming anymore.

 

Errr, whut.

It will work just fine, however you won't be able to use the full 8x(or is it 16x?) bandwidth in the card.

As long as your processor isn't so slow its a bottleneck (lets say about 1.6Ghz) and the ram isn't so small theres no room for games to play (so, less than 512MB in the case of most decent games), you shouldn't have a problem with that card.

I very much doubt the bottleneck will be the bandwidth of the AGP port.

And comparing the AIW to the 6600GT is like comparing ribena (blackcurrent juice for you yanks) to wine. Totally different levels of performance, and the AIW doesn't support half of the technology required for most new games.

 

I have the AMD AThlon 3200+ 2.2 Ghz
512 MB PC 2700
The motherboard is an ASUS, just not sure which one. Where can I find that info?

Thats more than good enough to run that card sucessfully.
