    Good morning all,

I have a problem that I hope you can help me with. For a few months now I've been getting green dots all over my screen when watching video or even when idle. I didn't think anything of it because they'd go away. Starting a few days ago, when I watch a video in full screen mode my comp will bsod with a 0xa error. I am running vista and have tried the win debug, but it says the symbols are wrong. I have updated my mobo bios and the drivers on the vid card. I haven't seen any more of those green dots, but then I haven't tried to play a vid file either. GPU temp is 65c idle. Do you guys have any ideas?

    Specs:
    Abit NF8-V
    Athlon64 3200+
    2GB ram
    bfg 6800 gt oc

I don't know what GPU temps should normally be for idle temp but, if similar to CPU, I'd say you're running rather hot. Do you have a reading any other temps in your computer? What's your cooling configuration, i.e., how many fans and where positioned and how oriented (intake/exhaust)? Does you video card have it's own fan?

BTW. you might try this GPU temp monitoring software. It's called ATI Tool but I see it also works with nVidia cards.

thanks for the reply. I am currently using rivatuner to monitor my vid card for now and it seems to be working well. I have 4 fans, intake on side by cpu, exhaust on top, intake in front and exhaust in back. The card does have it's own fan but i can't see if it's on or not and with how my cabinet is setup, I can't unplug it and look at it on a bench elswere....easily. My case does have temp monitoring on it....my case is reading 28c in coolest spot and 30c in warmest.

Well, it sounds like your case is adequately cooled.

What does this mean? Why can't you observe the fan on the video card with it installed in your computer? Is another card installed right below the video card and blocking the view?

You would know if your gpu fan quit you would get a burning smell (at least that's i've gotten before, I had on two occasions i've had a fan quit on me).:cry

I have five fans in my case and two on my 6800 gt ultra video card and it still on farcry and moh airborne will overheat (I assume) as I get a zillion blue weird graphics and my computer quits...I let it set of a few minutes, reboot and good to go..I have rivatuner how do you control fans with that? Thanks

I just noticed your video card is listed as over clocked, Did you over clock it or was it that way when you bought it?
If you over clocked it yourself you might want to set it back to factory default and see if that helps.

I have overclocked mine in the past, but it is stock now. The other guy in this thread has a similiar card and he states his is overclocked. Mine only overheats in these new games. They are pretty graphic intensive
