I recently brought a new Video card (radeon 5670) and what ever i do i cannot get my system to recognise its there. The fan only the card is working but i can never get an output on any of the slots.

I've tried the card in another computer and it worked fine so i know its not a faulty card. At first i thught it may just be vista bcause I've had problems with installing virtually everythin with that so changed to windows 7 and still nothing So i thought maybe I have a damaged slot but my old card (hd 2600xt) still gets picked up and works fine. And the only real difference i can see between them is my new one uses Gddr5. Atm i'm wondering if it a ompatibility problem with the motherboard. Any ideas what i should do?

If it helps my Pc is

    Conroe 1333-d667 Motherboard(bios 1.80)
    dual core 3 ghz
    3gb ram
    My psu is 650 watt

I know you show that you have had another card before this one but check in the bios to make sure that the on board video did not get turned back on somehow. You cannot get a card to work if it is on.

Hey thanks for the reply :D
I have the bios set so the PCIE loaded first as i can't actually turn off the onboard graphics through the bios. I only have the options to switch onboard from automatic,1mb or 8mb. Unless I'm having a brain fart and totally missing it

There is also the possibility that even though you have a decent power supply, the motherboard itself may not supply enough power to the PCIe slot to power the card. I don't believe the 5670 has a connector for external power on it so it is relying solely on what the motherboard channels to it.

Sometimes certain cards and boards just don't work together.

Go back into the bios just under the PCI you will see the on board graphics, I bet it is set to auto change its value.

Edit I will shut down and check my answer!!!!!

    Hi

I thin scajjr has a great point on power usage as these days GFX card do take a fair bit of juice, so unplug any none essential items like say a CD/DVD drive, external hardware like printer etc to free up some power and see if you get some luck.

Check to see if your mobo ha a BIOS update, this can help in some cases.

Also clean install drivers, if the old card is picked up maybe its recognising that over the new so follow the below I posted a while ago on clean installing drivers for GFX cards.

also tell us what items have yellow ! marks by them in Device Manager?
