Video Card?!?

Hey,

My computer screen flickers and freezes when I play games alot of the time. It also freezes sometimes and sometimes it'll freeze flicker then let me move my mouse but everything else won't work. I usally have to hold the power button to turn it off then turn it back on. Please help :\

 

What games. Certain ones? Sounds like your vid card may be overheating. Or perhaps something else. Open your case and blow a house fan it it. See if it helps. You also might want to clean the heat sink on you vid card. Just some thoughts.

 

Well I have a side fan on my case but Ill try house fan if you think thats better? and it does it to all games

 

I'm no pro.. But I know a few things, and that sounds like a hot vid card big time..Is it overclocked?

 

We need more system info before we can properly help you. It very well could be an overheating thing, but it could also be a driver issue.

Welcome to the boards & please read this thread before posting troubleshooting questions. Everest Home Edition is a great program to find system specs.

 

Well I got...

Windows XP
512mb ram
NVIDIA geforce4 ti 4200 with AGP8x
pentium4 2.26 ghz

I have gotten errors about the drivers but thats from when my computer sometimes restarts and comes up with the windows "send error report" and it sometimes says its an unknown reason about the video card so Im thinking your right about the overheating but...any other suggestions?

 

personally i would uninstall the card and reinstall. also make sure you have the latest drivers to see if this solves the ptoblem

 

it maybe your refresh rate...just a thought
