Video Cards

Hi there ,
My AMD 3500 sitting on a ASUS A8AE-LE MB ( which has onboard graphics to the tune of a Radeon Xpress 200). This onboard video does not give me streaming graphics and I assume its not sufficient. The list of Geforce cards and Radeon cards is immense. Just to throw this out there for recommendations for a card.
I am looking at a Geforce 7600 to 9500 card, and wonder if anyone has read of cooling issues. Of course the PSU is too small and I intend to replace the 300 with a 450w. I am running 2 gig of 3200 ram on this MB. the box is mid tower, and I wonder if anyone has had to add a secondary cooling fan (other than the one that must be mounted on the card itself. The MB slot is a PCI Expressx16.
Researching at Geforce I encountered some info that the bigger dogs of the video card world can fry without more cooling.

Welcome to MajorGeeks! I have an Nvidia GTX 260 GPU in my mid tower case, and it works well! It actually kicks the hot air out of the case! :-D

Got a bunch of fans running. Need a bit more info from you. What case do you have, how big of a PSU will you buy, and what do you want to do with it?

 

With only a 3500, I wouldn't get something too powerful as the processor would be a major bottle neck. You'll have all this graphics power but the rest of your computer won't be able to keep up. As for cooling, at the very least have an exhaust fan pulling air out of the case. An intake fan at the front of the case drawing air in would also be a good idea. Also tucking away wires and keeping the inside clean will help with air flow and allow for better cooling. A good PSU should have at least one on it as well. That will help cool the PSU and disperse heat that rises up from the processor.
