Video Codec Downloads

As usual with windows updates, since my last one none of my movie files play correctly any more. They have this weird zig zag down the middle where a large corner of the screen is a few frames behind the current frame.

I can use VLC media player and they go great, but it doesn't have the best interface. Is there somewhere I can download a massive video codec package that will take care of this?

I've done it in the past when I was more in tune with the net, but currently I don't have a clue as to where to look.

Any suggestions?
