video converters and merging

I'm looking for sometype of (free) video converter that is able to preferably convert avi and wmv to mpg files, and/or is able to merge a few small files into a larger one (like about 5 10MB files into one 50MB file)? Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks!

 

I've used a program called "Zwei-Stein Video Editor" to edit video clips from my web cam and crete Christmas video cards.

not quite what I was looking for, I mainly want something that can merge a few small files into one large one, anyone please???
