Video driver D'OH !

Just installed GeFORCE FX5500 on a HP Pavilion a1004x .
Cannot uninstall factory driver, and cannot install driver that came with the card . I plan on sending the computer to my 14 year old son across the country, once I am certain the driver is correctly installed, and that there will be no problems with the new install . The card appears to be functioning properly, it shows up on the specification info on CCleaner & device manager . I can also run a game that would not run previous to the installation . The computer is not connected to the internet . I would like to have the newest and/or best driver available for that card .
According to Display Adapter properties window, the driver version is 5.6.7.3 .
I think this driver was pre-existing on the computer .
I want to update driver, but the wizard tells me that it cannot find a better match for the installed hardware when I put the driver CD in the drive .
I see a version 91.47 driver available here : http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.47.html
should i try that one ? if so, how can i uninstall the current driver ? Add & Remove programs wont remove it .

 

Downloaded 9.1.4.7. to a flash drive from my computer, and uploaded it to the suspect computer .
Driver installed easy, no problems .
