I want to be able to copy my videos to DVD - am looking at MyDVD 8 Essentials for that but wondered if Nero 7 Ultra Edition has that capability. Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

Thanks for the response - I am not worrying about the copyright because the videos I have are pieces of various segments I have taped from the TV. I am more interested in how I can get the content of the videos to my hard drive and then burn that to DVD's. Can you help me do that?

    Hi Ron,

    Two questions:

    1. What format are your files in?
    2. Does this have to be playable on a standard DVD player?

Actually, I don't think I can. I always use the two programs in sync and have never tried using clips. But if the files are on your PC, you could try the movie maker in Nero or better yet wait for a better answer.:)

I'm not sure what you are asking - probably due to my lack of geekiness - I have a couple of videos that I want to copy to DVD's. I don't know what format videos are in and I would like for the DVD's to be able to be played on a standard DVD player.

I mean, what is the file extension of your videos? .avi? .mpeg? .wmv?

Mada, apparently I have not made myself clear. The videos are not yet on my hard drive - that is the thing I am trying to accomplish. These are regular videos that I can play on my VCR but before they deteriorate I would like to have copies on a DVD. I can take them downtown and get them done that way but I would like to do it myself and maybe at the same time do some editing. Any further suggestions?

In the Nero suite is a section called "Capture Video" This is from the tips there:
Here you can capture video from an external source that is plugged into your computer.
Use the controls on the page to select and configure the device you want to use. You can also specify a destination file and folder for the captured video.
Use the preview to play back the device or start capturing.
The files you captured are inserted into the capture list. You can play back and delete the files in the list. When leaving the page, all files in the list are inserted into your project if one is active.
You will need a patch cord that fits into your output on your VCR and with a USB connection on the other end. I would think Radio Shack would have something to work. Once again I am guessing 'cause I have never used Nero this way. Once it is on your PC, you can find out what the file format is by right clicking on the video file>then properties>then the summary tab. Good luck!:)

Sounds like a winner, musksnipe. I'll give it a shot and let you know.

Ron, I have an external unit from Plextor that enables me to connect my vcr to it (has three rca connectors red, white, yellow) and it connects to pc thru a USB cable. The unit came bundled with My DVD which has all the software abilities to capture the video and allow you to edit it any way you wish (titles, transistion effects etc). I have used it to put all our family videos, as well as friends onto DVD. Works great!

    Hope this helps

Grreatron, this is what I bought to do this.

In case that doesn't work, it is a Plextor PVR PX-TV100U video capture device. I studied up on them before I bought one and this one is so simple and easy to use. Search the web for good pricing. I like BUY.com however. One thing you might want to do, not install the WINDVD that comes with it. It is a CPU hog. Windows Media Player 11 now has a video capture feature. Now I used WINDVD to make my video's, had a problem with some other piece of software, unrelated to video editing, and turned out the software, don't remember what it was now, has a known issue with WINDVD. So I removed it and the other stuff worked again, fonts or something like that was the issue, my wife's stuff. So I haven't used WMP11 yet for that. But you would just plug your video output(RCA or Svideo) from you VCR, camcorder, or what ever, into this device and you are off and going.

Forgot to mention, it is USB 2.0 and the audio plugs into the audio input on the back of your PC. These cables come with the device.
