First, I know zero about editing video.

My question: I took a video with my digital camera, but I took it so that the image starts off sideways. Then in the middle, I rotated the camera so that it is the right way.rolleyes

Anyway, I need to know if there is anyway avi files can be rotated. Can I do it somehow with Windows Movie Maker (I haven't been able to find a way)? Or is there other free software out there that can do this?

    Laura,

In Windows Movie Maker, if you select Video Effects from the top (or even if you right click the video once you've added it to the timeline) You can select to Rotate 90, 180 or 270 degrees to fix the video (its near the bottom of the list).

    NIce tip.
I've been using Movie Maker for several years and didn't know that feature was there.
'tis a poor day when nothing is learned.
    Thanks

Ok. SOOO...I said I know nada about editing videos (give me still pics anyday..I love editing those).

I figured out the rotate. How do I cut it where I turned the camera and just rotate the part that is sideways??

Once you drag your movie clip to the storyboard it will show in your preview window.
Simply play the clip in the preview pane and then pause it where you want the break.
    Click the "split clip" button

You will now have two clips in your story board and you can add effect to either one.

Success! Thanks dy and Joel. :)

It took me a while to figure out I had to completely cut out the frames where the camera was turning, but it came out pretty well.

It was a vid of my two girlfriends when we were at a club in Mexico. I needed to share it with them. :D
