I just reinstalled (no reformat) Windows XP Professional. I had Winamp, Media Player Classic and K-Lite Codec pack installed for playing AVI, MPG and other files. It worked fine in the other install of Windows but in this installed it looks really bright and a lot of quality is lot in the video. I uninstalled all of the above software & codecs but there is still no luck in getting it to work right.

When I got to reinstall K-Lite Codec pack it gives me various files that can't be replaced. A few are c:\windows\system32\divxdec.ax, xvid.ax, vorbs.dll, etc... I have no idea what the problem is.

I've tried everything I can think of. Any help would be very greatly appreciated

IM me via AIM, MSN, Yahoo, or ICQ if you have any questions.

Restart you machine and try installing then. Also did you install all your drivers after you installed the new xp?

I uninstalled the codecs, restarted the machine, and then reinstalled the codecs and it was still bright.

Are all your motherboard and display drivers installed?

Yes, my display drivers are installed and my chipset software utility is installed. My motherboard is a Dell motherboard and does not have drivers.

The codecs are installed. I think it is a problem with XviD not being forced to RGB32. Things seem to be fine for the most part after I changed that. I don't know if it is a bug with the codec or if something else was wrong because its always worked fine like that before.

If you think it is a problem with xvid rgb, then videos with other codecs should work well.Does it?Also try removing k-lite and install codecs directly from the codec manf. sites.I heard that a codec called angelportion can completly ruin your system. My guess on this one-'not a codec fault'.How is your system otherwise, spyware?and are games etc working? Also try another player.

I removed the K-Lite package and installed DivX and still had the same problem. There is no viruses or spyware.

I've uninstalled the codec packs, and it is still doing it, even with mpegs. Tried checking the graphics settings (hue, saturation etc) they are all on default.
I'm using a 6800 ultra, latest nvidia drivers.... i also have installed a satellite dvb card, wonder if that has anything to do with it.

    Anyone any ideas?

sorry my first posts are questions - i hate that :)

Ok, did some hunting around and this seems to be a 77.72 driver problem. Here is the workaround...

1.) Open the advanced display properties and select the GeForce tab.
2.) Select the "color correction" option in the side-bar menu.
3.) Set "apply color changes to" to "overlay".
4.) Set "color profile" to "advanced mode".
5.) Click "apply" and close the advanced display properties.

See this post for full info...

trick is to get the gamma to 1.0 .. u need to click on desktop in apply colour changes, click set to default, then goto ALL then apply to all, something like that.. trial and error shud do it.
