Video links (Windows Media) kill my wireless connection

Whenever I click on a video link, especially with window media, I can no longer surf the web. My sys. tray shows that I am connected, but the little monitor icon does no light up at all. I think it stops sending data. So, to fix it, I have to unplug the adapter from the back of the router, and the plug it back in.

I am using an old Linksys wireless B router. Has anybody else experienced this problem? I tried using different browsers, but it did not help.

Usually the second time around, I can click the video link.

You might need to update your chipset drivers on the nic card....:) :)

I should probably have mentioned that I am using a lap top pc.

Reason for the suggestion was a similar problem on our 'puters ....e-mailed tech support for the ethernet card and they had me update the drivers ...solved the problem.:)

Yeah, this seems to be a recent problem. I've had the wireless card for a while, but it could be my router too, or my modem.

Bypass the router (temporarily) ...see if that makes a diff..

Ok, it's either my wireless router, which has the newest firmware. Or it's was Avant Browser, which the firewall was blocking or attempting to block.

I have the same problem with Netscape. I don't why I got the warning about Avant being blocked only when I used my X-jack pc card. Maybe I should turn off the firewall.

Doubt it's your firewall ....check your video settings under tools ....options ...(not sure where in netscape ...should be an advanced tab that defines your video/graphics settings).

Ok, I figured out the problem--and it was not easy. My laptop has a hard time switching from Cable (LAN) to wireless and back.

All I needed to do was uncheck "UDP" under Tools=>Options=>Network of my W. Media player.
